Martine Moriarty

Martine is a Dingle artist who paints oil paintings of local landscapes, events and animals.

What in life do you feel most grateful for?

Every single day, every single person in my life, everything in nature.

If I could have lunch with anyone dead or alive- who would it be?

Someone who died, so I can find out what its like and where we go.

What is the most spontaneous thing I ever did?

Buying my house in Lispole when I had only been in Dingle for a few weeks.

What was cool when I was young but not now?

Probably platform shoes-I must have been 8 ft high!

Best  way to start the day?

I wake each morning and say thank you to my ancestors for putting me here today.

What are people surprised to learn about me?

Probably the two things that most people don’t know are that I am a fully qualified plumber (retired) and that I ride a big motorbike.

One thing I still have from childhood?

A very old floppy, moth-eaten teddybear called Freddie.

Whats the best advice you have ever received?

Lefty loose, Righty tightie.

Whats the first thing you notice about people?

Eyes + smile +  aura.

At 5 years old was did you want to be?

An artist.

What role does an artist have in todays society?

I think the same as it has always been. We bring colour and decoration to the world… I love the saying “In the garden society, the artist is the bee.”

Whats the coolest thing I own?

My 650 Yamaha Dragstar called Bob

Whats the most important tool or something you can’t live without in your studio?

There are a few, which include my easels, brushes, paints, the light, my cats and dogs.

What is your most inspirational place?

Anywhere on the Dingle Peninsula, but the Slea Head Drive in the evening sets my head straight again.
